Pono Process Flow Chart Explanation

A young person can use the Pono Process to submit a grievance. 

  • Step 1: Young person submits a grievance by website, email, phone/text. 
  • Step 2: It is received by the Pono Navigator 
  • Step 3: The Navigator then calls the young person to follow up on the grievance. 
  • Step 4: The Navigator reaches out to the young person's team members (SW, CASA, GAL, RCG) to inform them of the grievance. 
  • Step 5: The young person's team work with one another and the young person to reach a resolution for the grievance. 

STOP - IF ABLE TO REACH A RESOLUTION or

CONTINUE - IF UNABLE TO REACH A RESOLUTION

  • Step 6: The grievance is then passed on to the Pono Protectors.

CONTINUE - IF UNABLE TO REACH A RESOLUTION

  •  Step 7: Pono Protectors and Youth Team will assist youth to explore legal options.


Terminology/Acronyms

SW - Social Worker 

C.A.S.A. - Court Appointed Special Advocate

G.A.L. - Guardian Ad Litem 

RCG - Resource Caregiver (Foster Parent)

Grievance - Formal Complaint 

Navigator - Former Foster Youth 

Pono Protectors - Professionals in positions of assigned authority that make decisions independently (or in conjunction with other team members, as necessary) to resolve grievances that are able to be handled outside of a court process.
